Dan Dearing joined NexTone in 1999 as director of marketing, bringing his extensive knowledge of telecommunications to the company. With 17+ years of industry experience, Dearing has held a number of technical and business positions for both service providers and solution suppliers.
Prior to NexTone, Dearing was the senior product marketing manager at Ciena Communications, Inc., where he successfully managed the global rollout of their optical transport platforms to Sprint and emerging carriers.
Dearing earned his Bachelors of Science in Computer and Information Science from Ohio State University and a Master of Science in Computer Science and Applications from Virginia Tech.

Surf - Exhibiting at Spring VON 2006


Mikey spoke with Amir Zmora, the Vice President of Marketing for Surf Communication Solutions.

Jon Arnold / Ronald Gruia


On today's podcast, Jon spoke with Ron Gruia of Frost & Sullivan about some of the key trends he's been following in the IP market. IMS has been a big story, and Ron commented on where that's going, and how the European market is further along than North America. The Canadian market was also addressed, with Ron providing his thoughts on how the large operators are responding to a more competitive environment. He is a frequent speaker at conferences such as Supercomm, VON, 3GSM, IPComm, The Transformation in Communication, Innovations 2005, VON Canada, IP World Canada, the Intel Communications Summit, and Comdex Canada.
Ronald has also written articles for publications such as Telemanagement and VoIP Magazine, appeared on Report on Business Television (ROB-TV in Canada) and Tech TV, and has been quoted in publications including Business Week, Forbes, Wired, Chicago Tribune, National Post, Globe and Mail and Washington Post. He is an MIT graduate in Electrical Engineering, and has accumulated years of experience in the telecom industry, having held several roles at Nortel Networks’ Enterprise Division, where he earned a U.S. patent.

Jon Arnold / Rob Hyndman
On this week's Canadian IP Thought Leaders podcast, Jon Arnold spoke with Rob Hyndman, a Toronto-based technology lawyer. The topic was how issues around legal intercept and privacy for IP communications are treated in both Canada and the U.S. Rob explained the history leading up to the current state of regulations as well as where things seem to be going. He also talked some of the grass roots efforts underway in both countries that are trying to get the voice of citizens heard in the process as government bodies learn to navigate the choppy waters of regulating the Internet.
Rob Hyndman
For over ten years Rob has practised business law with Stikeman Elliott and Ogilvy Renault in the areas of corporate and commercial law, including advising private and public companies on acquisitions, divestitures, licence, distribution and supply agreements, strategic alliances, shareholders’ agreements and other commercial contracts and transactions. During that time he has focused on mandates involving acquisitions, corporate finance and commercial matters related to technology businesses.
Rob has also been General Counsel to a Canadian network software development company, where his responsibilities included senior involvement in all aspects of the company’s management.
He has recently established his own firm, Hyndman | Law, A Technology Law Practice, where he continues his practice of providing business law advice to businesses that develop and use technology.
Rob graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1982, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and in 1989 he earned a master's degree in business administration at Dalhousie University, with specializations in Finance and International Business. In 1992 Rob received a law degree from Dalhousie Law School.
He describes himself as an unabashed lifelong geek.
Rob is a member of various information technology oriented groups and associations, has been a lecturer at legal education seminars conducted by the Law Society of Upper Canada, and has lectured at the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society of Upper Canada on the topic of Business Law.
Rob is also the President of Accommodation, Information and Support Inc., a Toronto-based provider of non-profit housing. He’s an assiduous blogger and can be found at robhyndman.com.

Prior to this, Ash was the VP of Internet and Data Communications for Primus Australia, taking the business unit to profitability and the third largest consumer and business markets ISP in the country. From 1990 to 1998, Ash had various Network Operations, Network Surveillance, Marketing, Sales, Finance and Strategic Planning management roles at Bell Canada. Between Ash's experience at Bell Canada and working in Australia, he undertook several entrepreneurial and management consulting opportunities that included Web and E-Commerce consulting to the U.S. Department's of Health and State, he also led a Washington D.C.-based E-Commerce consultancy's efforts that resulted in winning Vice President Al Gore's "Hammer" Award for helping in cutting bureaucracy and waste in government.
