Joe was CTO at DiamondWare involved in the development of 3D conferencing as a value added VoIP service. Joe is now an independent consultant in converged networking. Joe advises carrier, equipment vendors and large end users on best applications of VoIP technology.
Look for Mr Rinde's Industry Perspective: Why VoIP is still a me too offering and what can be done about it?
Friday, March 17, 2006, 11:30am - 12:00
VoIP started 10 years ago with VocalTec’s IP phone that allowed Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) between PCs on the Internet. Today we have calls between phones on the telephone network and internet connected phones, but bottom line it is still POTS. VoIP technology has brought prices down by lowering the barrier to entry to the phone service business. This is all good, but where is the new? What should we be getting from VoIP technology and when will we get it?
