Jon Arnold / Tom Flak
On this week's podcast, Jon spoke with Tom Flak, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Strategy with Soma Networks. Soma is based primarily in Toronto and San Francisco, and is a leading provider of WiMax solutions. Tom provided an overview of the state of both fixed and mobile WiMax, and where it differs from WiFi. He began his career in telecommunications with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in St. Louis, Missouri. Tom holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri, and a Master’s degree in Information Networking from Carnegie-Mellon University.
He has written numerous white papers on the subject of broadband wireless technology and wireless VoIP for publications such as: International Engineering Consortium Comprehensive Report, Internet Telephony, and CommsDesign. He is also a frequent speaker at professional industry events including: Wireless Communications Association International, Broadband Wireless World, VoIPossibilities, WiMAX World, VON, Light Reading-WiMAX, OPASTCO, and the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association.

Laura spoke with Shahal Khan, the CEO of Centile.
Shahal Khan has over ten years of experience in Senior Management, Business Development and establishing new ventures in the international Telecommunications sector in Europe and the Middle East. Before joining Centile, Shahal was actively involved in pursuing emerging opportunities in Europe since deregulation, with a focus on VOIP and GSM technologies. He founded Global Voice Telecom in 1998 in the US, and founded Global Voice Portugal (2001) and G Voice Iberia Spain (2003), one of the first VoIP operators in each country. The group built over 7 VoIP networks worldwide in wholesale as well as retail service segments. Prior to Global Voice, Shahal was Managing Partner at Global Voice Data Communications which built over 5 telecom networks in the Middle East and Asia. He was Head Project Manager of IP projects for PSInet based in Virginia, and Financial Analyst for a private company supporting the Naval Air Command. Shahal holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics and Conflict Resolution from the American University in Washington DC, USA. He studied Finance at masters level at John Hopkins in Washington DC, USA. Shahal is a published advocate on VOIP and is a commentator at industry events.
